PE and Sport at Towcester C of E Primary School

PE Curriculum

Physical Education is a core part of our broad and balanced curriculum. We use the Get Set 4 PE scheme to ensure a balanced physical education programme that gives access to a variety of different sports, games and physical activities is delivered. We are passionate about promoting wellbeing and equipping our pupils with strategies and techniques to build emotional resilience. We aim to equip children with the knowledge and skills required to be physically literate and instil a passion for sport.

Towcester C of E primary children benefit from being taught PE by both their class teachers and a specialist PE coach. When possible, qualified coaches from local sports clubs are invited into school. This is important as this helps to build links with these clubs and further encourages children to take part in sports outside of school.

Competitions

Every year we enter a range of sporting events and competitions. This year we have been increasingly successful in our competition entries achieving results that we are incredibly proud of. Whilst we celebrate our successes at competition level, our aim is to ensure that, by the end of their time at our school, every child will have represented our school at least once in a sporting event.

Sports Crew

Each year we train our Y6 pupils to become sports leaders. This enables them to organise and run fun playground games at breaks and lunchtimes for all of our pupils.

Sports Premium Funding

We received £19,460 for the academic year (2022-23).  This money was used to support sports development in school and was used to pay for the professional development of staff, professional coaching, sports equipment and competition entry.

We provided a range of sporting opportunities for our pupils by organising extra-curricular clubs focussing on different sports and activities.

We have ensured that all our staff have had professional development opportunities, all pupils have had sports coaching, all pupils across the school have had access to a challenging PE trip, trying a more unusual sport or activity. Healthy Living Week focused on health and wellbeing activities for all of our pupils. Our PE resources have been updated and extended. A proportion of this fund has been used to pay for competitions locally by paying into the Sponne Sports Partnership.

School Games Mark

We are delighted to announce that we have achieved the School Games Gold Mark Award for the 2022/23 academic year. The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.
