Zones of Regulation Week -

We have had our very first zones of regulation week! We have really enjoyed thinking about our emotions and coming up with our own toolboxes to help us regulate ourselves. We even dressed up as a coloured zone and sang different songs about our feelings. This was our favourite song - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIRVklZXicM

April 2021

This term we are learning all about growing plants and animals! We have kick started our term with a brand new book, 'Croc and Bird'.

We have only read part of the book but we are all loving the story so far and have had some great discussions and the children have continued with their ideas in their play throughout job time. We will continue to read a page at a time as we explore the meaning, vocabulary and makes links with what we already know from each page.

We are linking the book to learning about life cycles and learning about animals who lay eggs. We will be learning to understand and use the words: amphibians, reptiles, insects, birds, fish, lay, egg, shell, hatch and life cycle. Today we watched videos showing a bird and a crocodile hatching. The children were so engaged and many of them asked me to 'put it on tapestry' so they could watch it at home! So, here are the links: bird hatching https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BC8bHVyauQY  and alligator/crocodile hatching: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a25kikvEpOw#t=33

Here is a link to a song we are learning to sing at the beginning of each literacy linked learning session: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PqzF4-w7bG8

We started by looking at lots of different eggs - ask your child which egg they like best and why. The children have been amazed by who lays eggs and how different eggs can be.

Maths -

Over the next 3 weeks, we will be looking at numbers to 20 and beyond!

We will be thinking about building numbers beyond 10 and counting patterns beyond 10. To consolidate this learning at home, you could play some board games with your child such as snakes and ladders. Encourage them to say the numbers as they go up the board, noticing the pattern it follows and counting as they go. You could also encourage your child to count forwards and backwards to 20, starting from a random number. Perhaps your child could count the amount of grapes they have in the packet or the amount of smarties in their tubes.

Here are the links to some songs we are learning:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0Ajq682yrA  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=srPktd4k_O8

Below is an example of what how we have been building numbers beyond 10 in different ways.

March 2021

Welcome back to school! We were so excited to welcome you back to school and we hoped you enjoyed coming in through the balloon arch and seeing your teachers clapping and waving! We are very proud of everything you achieved whilst learning from home. We are so excited to have you all back and for you to see your friends! We have lots in store ...

Did you see the Easter bunny? The Easter bunny came to visit us at the classroom window and gave us all a tube of smarties! We have also been learning about what happened to Jesus at Easter and why Easter is important to Christians. We have learnt a lot and we have even made some palm leaves, palm crosses, Easter gardens and even tried some hot cross buns!

December 2019 - The Curly Wurly Challenge

It was Science investigation morning yesterday and we looked at how far we can make materials stretch. We tested out many different materials including paper, string, wool, elastic bands, blue tack, cotton wool and of course a Curly Wurly. We sorted our materials into 3 groups: materials that did not stretch, materials that did stretch and those materials that only stretched a little. We used hoops to help us with our sorting.

The last material we stretched was the Curly Wurly and as a school we had a competition between all classes. We used many different techniques such as rolling, pinching, pulling and we managed to stretch our Curly Wurly very far! We managed to stretch one Curly Wurly over 3.5 meters long - just shy of the world record!!!!! Foundation Stage came 2nd in the class competition as Year 5 managed slightly longer than us. It was a little messy but such great fun!

December 2019 - Christmas Lunch

We enjoyed our Christmas lunch at school on Friday! We had crackers, Christmas music playing and delicious food. It was a really special lunch.

December 2019 - Learning about Polish Celebrations

A parent came into school on Friday and told us about the Polish custom of leaving clean shoes out for Saint Nicholas and he fills them with chocolates and sweets.  She recited a poem in Polish - it was very interesting to listen to and quite different from English! The girls gave everyone a chocolate to celebrate.

December 2019 - Wrapping presents

One of our learning jobs during job time this week has been to wrap a book. It is quite a learning task to get the right amount of wrapping paper, cut it, fold it and get your sticky tape ready to stick on the paper.
We wrote little gift tags and gave our wrapped gift to a friend to open. We then shared the book together.

November 2019 - A Frosty Morning

We took advantage of the frosty morning and went on a 'frost walk': we found out the frost was thick in the shade and had already melted in the sunny areas, we found frost was thick on one side of a leaf but not on the reverse side of the leaf and we found out we could be magicians and make the frost disappear with our fingers!

November 2019 - Our Wedding

We had a pretend wedding for our 'Wow Day' this term!  We did lots of learning to prepare for our 'wedding' including new language, roles and responsibilities, customs and traditions.  We wrote invitations, created decorations, made food for the reception and acted out the wedding.  Finally on the big day, we walked to Church and met Rev'd Paula who talked to us and carried out the wedding service.  We had a bride, groom, best men, ushers, bridesmaids, photographers and guests.  After our wedding, all the guests and parents came back to school for the reception!

November 2019 - Our Catalonia Guests

A few of the Catalonia visitors (who were here on the exchange program for the week) came to foundation stage for 20 minutes. We prepared our questions for them and learnt their are similarities and differences between their lives and our lives.  We enjoyed listening to them speak Catalan.

November 2019 - Term 2 at school

Rookery Farm - March 2018

At 9am on Thursday 22nd March there was great excitement in Foundation Stage as we prepared for our first ever trip – Rookery Farm!  The children didn’t know what to be most excited about: the minibus journey, the picnic lunch or seeing the animals!

The children sang all the way to Stoke Bruerne on the minibus’ and Mrs Griffin was very impressed how many could do their own seat belt!  As soon as we arrived we went to the petting barn and loved being able to get into the pens and stroke the rabbits, lambs, goats and cows.  Then we were very lucky to see a sheep giving birth to a lamb and we even spotted more sheep that were going to have their lambs soon too.

We had a quick fruit and drink break before walking around the larger outdoor paddocks and saying hello to the pigs, lamas, donkeys, cows, horses and wild birds.

After our delicious picnic lunch we had enough time to play outside on the wooden playground equipment and inside on the soft play before we had to get onto the minibus to come back to school.  We all agreed we had had a great day out at Rookery Farm – one of the best days ever!

Learning in Term 4 - March 2018

We have had such a busy start to Term 4, we learnt all about the Gingerbread Man story during World Book Week, made gingerbread men with Diane from Tesco and dressed up as different book characters on World Book Day! We explored lots of different ways to make the same numbers using numicon and animal legs during the maths investigation morning. Our learning has now moved on to the story of the Three Little Pigs. We have the Three Little Pigs building site in our outdoor area and are investigating the different and best ways to build houses! We are are all looking forward to our trip to Rookery Farm and our Foundation Stage Gardening Afternoon at the end of this term!

We went outside to look at the fire engine, everyone got a chance to sit in it before we had a go with the hose pipe. In the afternoon we all got our own sparklers.

Our New Equipment - October 2017

We have recently got some new physical equipment in Foundation Stage. We have some new bikes and walkers where we have to work together to make them move. Some road signs for the bikes, a bike stand, a digger for the digging area, dancing ribbons and some new games that will improve our fine motor skills as well as our communication and social skills.

Foundation Stage Animals - October 2017

Foundation Stage are really lucky to have their own petting area at school. In Foundation Stage we are really fortunate to have two guinea pigs to look after. We love helping to put them out in the mornings, feed them and clean them out. We give them lots of cuddles. The Foundation Stage children also have the opportunity to take the animals home and look after them over the weekend and for the holidays.

Farm to Fork Likes and Dislikes - October 2017

Diane from Farm to Fork at Tesco came to visit and brought us lots of different types of food to try. We got to try prunes, sunflower seeds, tzatziki, pitta breads, ryvita and sugar snap peas. The children were able to discuss their likes and dislikes and also describe what the foods tasted like with each other.

Forest School Crowns - October 2017

Reading Buddies - September 2017

We are enjoying having our Year 6 buddy come and visit us every week.  They have been chatting to us to find out about our likes and interests and sharing books with us.

Our topic this term is 'Super Me - Super You!' and they really are a super bunch!  Please click here for this terms topic overview and home learning and here for our Foundation Stage newsletter.
